Small Spaces

Image Bank - Small Spaces

Working in tight spaces is not a problem you have when shooting in large studios, but when you have to take over a corner of a small salon to shoot an add campaign for a client, it is amazing how soon you run out of places to put up a light.

As you can see this shot was taken with a 4 light setup. The main light on the left was fitted with a large Elinchrom Rotalux softbox, but to add a little more edge to the light, the outer diffuser was removed. The second light was used to illuminate the Lastolite HiLite, of course set to 2 stops higher than the working exposure. The hair light was a simple deep reflector dish to add a large pool of hard light to the hair. Finally a beauty dish on the opposite side to the main light which was at 90 degrees to camera and subject, for a sandwich lighting effect.

I used the Elinchrom BX500Ri flash heads for a rapid recharge so as to capture a burst of images, especially when shooting the small groups.

The Exposure was determined to give a good depth of field for detail.

Iso 100 Shutter Speed 1/160th Aperture F11

This is a pull back shot to show the light positions, so no post production was used.
